Trekking Pole Questions

"3K is the tow size—3,000 filaments per fiber bundle." - kind of carbon fiber. Many trekking poles use a 3K woven outer over unidirectional (UD) layers for balanced performance.

Carbon offers excellent stiffness-to-weight and damping. Aluminum can bend rather than crack. Choose based on terrain, weight goals, and how hard you are on gear.

External lever locks (what our poles use) clamp the sections from the outside. They’re quick to operate with gloves, easy to micro-adjust via a tension knob, and hold securely even in dust or cold.
Internal twist locks expand a plug inside the tube. They’re common on cheap poles and can slip, seize up with grit, or be hard to tighten consistently. For reliability and field service, lever locks are the preferred choice.

1. Open the lever.
2. Turn the tension knob (thumb wheel) clockwise for more clamping force, counter-clockwise to loosen.
3. Close the lever—aim for firm resistance at the last ¼ of the swing.

Carbon (3K): lighter swing weight, great vibration damping, crisp feel. Best for long mileage, travel, and everyday hiking. Avoid hard side impacts on sharp rocks.
7075-T6 aluminum: a bit heavier but very tough and dent-resistant; tends to bend rather than snap. Great for rough, rocky routes, winter abuse, or rental/loaner use.
Both materials in our lineup are engineered for ultra-strong performance; pick the feel and durability profile you prefer.

Telescoping (our 3-section carbon & aluminum)
Pros: widest length range; fastest on-trail micro-adjust; very strong; Easy for use.
Trade-off: packs to 24.8 in (63 cm), a bit longer in luggage.

Folding (our 5-section carbon)
Pros: ultra-compact pack size 14.6 in (37 cm); low swing weight.
Trade-off: slightly more joints; A little lower stretch capability than telescoping pole.

Start with elbows at about 90° on level ground.
Quick guide (height → starting length):
5'2"–5'6" (157–168 cm) → ~43–45 in (110–115 cm)
5'7"–5'11" (170–180 cm) → ~45–49 in (115–125 cm)
6'0"+ (183 cm+) → ~49–53 in (125–135 cm)
Lengthen for descents, shorten for steep climbs or when using the lower EVA extension.

Yes—light swing, secure lever locks, and cork + EVA grips make controlled steps easier.
Note: Trekking poles are not medical devices. For rehab, follow your clinician’s guidance.

Carbide trekking tip (standard): bites into dirt, gravel, and ice for traction. Replaceable.
Rubber tip caps: slide over the carbide tip; protect floors/rocks, cut noise and vibration on pavement.
Boot tips: angled rubber for long pavement or boardwalk miles; grippy and quieter. Swap on/off by hand; remove rubber/boot tips to expose the carbide tip on trail.

Mud/Sand baskets (small/medium): stop the tip from sinking in mud, sand, scree—best for 3-season use.
Snow baskets (large): floatation in soft snow; install both sides for winter.
Twist to seat firmly—check occasionally.

Carabiner Questions

If speed and repeated clipping matter, auto-lock wins. If budget and simplicity matter more, screwgate is fine—just be diligent about locking.

No. Use a locking carabiner for belay/rappel and any human-support connection. However, for hang on heavy items, such as backpacks, ropes, and equipment, are very reliable.

Yes—when used correctly, 25 kN major-axis exceeds typical requirements. Training and correct setup matter more than “bigger number chasing.”

The gate acts like a brace. Open the brace and the frame flexes, dropping strength.

You don’t “need” both, but UIAA alongside EN is a strong signal of quality and international acceptance.
